Unix Firmware On Failure

FT//s and FT//e Systems

A small number of problems have been reported in a couple of areas on Apricot's MCA-2 servers. The problems with the available solutions are listed below:-

UNIX UPS Utility Some machines have been found to completely hang when the UPS driver from the UNIX Server Environment 7.1 is installed. This problem is resolved by a beta Flash BIOS (1.04.02) available from the MS-DOS BBS. The final release of this Flash BIOS will be available by November 17th.
BusLogic cards A similar problem to those experienced under NetWare has become evident under UNIX. Spurious block errors reported by the Sdsk driver from the hard disk and in some cases problems using tape devices. This problem is resolved by upgrading firmware (BIOS and Microcode) on the BusLogic card to 470M and 3.36F respectively. New firmware can be ordered through our Spares Department should a problem manifest itself.

We recommend that when upgrading the BusLogic firmware the BusLogic (btk) UNIX driver is also upgraded to 1.40. This driver can be found in file area 39 of the MS-DOS BBS or in /uuinfo/apricot on our UNIX server. The file required is btk140.Z on both machines.
