Apricot EPx Setup Information

The following points should be borne in mind when configuring an EPx to run SCO UNIX.

  1. The BIOS for the on-board Adaptec in the FT//ex is present on the EPx and should be disabled.

  2. The Adaptec 1510 SCSI card can be configured for tape installation using IRQ 9 at an I/O address of 0x140H. In order to use IRQ 9 it is necessary to disable this interrupt on the video card (remove the jumper from JP2).

  3. Booting UNIX or Open Server to use the Adaptec 1510 for tape installation use the command line:-

      unix kernel.adapter=spad(0x140,0x9,0)
      at the boot prompt.

  4. The Specialix SI card has been tested on RAM address D8000 using polled mode. It is important to disable ROM shadowing on the D8000 segment using the systems configuration utility. The address D0000 cannot be used for the Specialix as this clashes with the residual Adaptec BIOS present in full on the FT//ex.

  5. The 685 Graphics card is compatible with the IBM 8514/A graphics adapter at register level and has been run in this mode by ourselves at 1024x768 resolution with 256 colours.
