IDE hard disc setup for SCO Unix on XEN-PC 486 (Acer P2 motherboard)

Related IPB's

Refer to IPB 3177 for a description of the setup required for the XEN-PC 560 Intel Revenge motherboard (RA product code).

IPB 3181 refers to the XEN-PC 590 Jade motherboard (RE & RF product codes) with BIOS prior to 4.02.

IPB 3189 refers to the XEN-PC 590 Jade motherboard systems from 4.02 BIOS and XEN-PC 560 Ruby motherboard (RG & RH) systems. Ruby based systems and Jade systems from BIOS 4.02 use a common SurePath BIOS. When such systems boot up a square is displayed in the top right hand corner.

Prior to installing SCO Unix onto the hard disc of Acer P2 motherboard (RC & RD product code) machines the support for drives with more than 1024 cylinders must be correctly set to enable the drive to be recognised. If this is not done the installation will hang shortly after the question asking whether the installation is to be fully configurable or default.

  1. Shortly after powering on press <cntrl> <alt> <escape> to enter the BIOS setup program.

  2. Select Basic System Configuration.

  3. Press <PageDown> to select the second page of options.

  4. Under the Enhanced IDE Features menu select the Hard Disk Size > 504Mb option and set it to Disabled.

  5. Press <esc> twice and select the Yes option to the question Do you want to save CMOS data.
