Hard disk configuration recommendations for SCO OpenServer 5

  • Within this IPB an italic font denotes specific SCO terminology.
  • Within this IPB a courier font denotes output to screen.

When installing OpenServer 5 it is recommended that the fully configurable options are used during hard disk installation. This is to force fdisk and divvy to run interactively as in a custom installation under UNIX 3.2v4.

The method by which this can be achieved is not as immediately obvious as in 3.2v4, and can easily be missed. The default hard disk setup is never usually adequate for the majority of installations, which require manual control over filesystem and partition sizes.

To access the interactive options during installation:

  • Press <space> at the Hard Disk Setup option in Preparing Your Disk and Choosing Software Window

  • Press <space> again at Partitions and Filesystems

  • Select Interactive fdisk/divvy option

Other options available under Partitions and Filesystems are Use Whole Disk for UNIX and Customize. Neither of these really give enough flexibility for a proper installation. Note also, that the Interactive fdisk/divvy option is not available as an option for the second or non-primary hard disk from within the Installation Query Manager (IQM) when carrying out an initial installation.
