New supplement for SCO UNIX 3.2v4.2 - UOD429a

This new support level supplement (SLS) from SCO contains feature enhancements and corrections to known problems with SCO UNIX 3.2v4.2 based operating systems, including the SCO Open Server 3.0 product family. It provides a replacement N1 boot disk which can be used in place of the supplied one on all of the above products.

Full details of the installation and usage of this supplement can be found in the accompanying documentation. The supplement consists briefly of the following components:

  1. New /boot program that correctly addresses the IBM SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Adapter/A, and a bootos utility to allow booting of other operating systems at the boot: prompt. Support for the OpenServer 5 style biosgeom command.

  2. New IDE driver to support Extended IDE drives, making LBA possible on drives larger than 528Mb.

  3. Support for ATAPI CD-ROM drives (See advice below)

  4. Various replacement BTLD (Boot Time Loadable Driver) SCSI host adapter drivers including alad and arad

  5. Corrections to keyboard hangs on fast systems, and problems where certain operations would fail on drives exactly 2Gb and 4Gb in size.

UNIX Support strongly advise that only the replacement alad driver component of this SLS be used, and nothing else, as other features will not be tested by Apricot, and installation of these could lead to unpredictable results on Apricot hardware. The supplement itself can be found on the Insight Classic CD-ROM from rel 12 and in Area 39 of Insight BBS as uod429a.z, our ftp site ftp.apricot.co.uk, or www.apricot.co.uk. The accompanying documentation is in the same location as uod429a.ltr.
