Connecting 5.25" Floppy Drives to Apricot Hardware

LS (LANstation), LS Pro

It is not possible to fit a 5.25" external drive to this machine.

XEN-S, XEN-LS Product Code: XL7606

This product contains the 5.25" external floppy drive unit, extended systems interface cable, floppy drive interface cable and DC interface cable.

The original interface cable connecting the internal 3.5" drive to the motherboard requires replacing with the extended systems interface cable. This cable should be routed rearwards, exiting the systems unit either above or below the add-in card cage.

The floppy drive interface cable attaches to the end of the systems interface cable, and then into the rear of the 5.25" floppy drive.

The DC cable connects to the DC connector on the rear of the XEN-S, XEN-LS and again into the rear of the external floppy drive.

Qi Series (All - including models fitted with Panther motherboard) Product Code: TI025

This product contains the 5.25" external floppy drive unit, MC floppy disk controller card, tape drive interface cable, floppy drive interface cable and systems unit interface cable.

There are a number of connectors on the floppy disk controller card which should be cabled as follows.

PL4 Power input to floppy disk controller from PSU
PL1 Data cable from motherboard to card (use cable numbered 14250241)
PL2 Data cable to tape drive (use cable numbered 14250341)
PL5 Power output from floppy disk controller to tape drive
PL6 Power output from floppy disk controller to external 5.25" disk drive.
PL7 Data cable out to 5.25" disk drive.

The data cables supplied with the floppy disk controller card have the part number written on the flat side of one connector.

Machines fitted with Scorpion Rev B or Panther motherboards require switches SW2 and SW3 to be altered. The purpose of these switches is as follows :

SW2 3.5"/5.25" Select Switch For Second Drive
Position A = 5.25" Second Drive
Position B = 3.5" Second Drive
SW3 Second Drive Present
Position A = Second Drive Present
Position B = Second Drive Not Present

VX FT (Mk I) Product Code : TI026

This product contains the 5.25" internal floppy drive unit, MC floppy disk controller card, tape drive interface cable, floppy drive interface cable and systems unit interface cable.

PL4 Power input to floppy disk controller from PSU
PL1 Data cable from motherboard to card (use cable numbered 14250241)
PL7 Data cable out to 5.25" disk drive.

The data cables supplied with the floppy disk controller card have the part number written on the flat side of one connector.

FTs & FTe (Mk II) (Models fitted with Scorpion & Panther motherboards)

If the drive is to be fitted internally, Product Code : TE48227

If the drive is to be fitted externally, Product Code : TI026 should be used. This kit includes the floppy disk controller card and should be cabled as follows:

PL4 Power input to floppy disk controller from PSU
PL1 Data cable from motherboard to card (use cable numbered 14250241)
PL7 Data cable out to 5.25" disk drive.

The data cables supplied with the floppy disk controller card have the part number written on the flat side of one connector.

Machines fitted with Scorpion Rev B or Panther motherboards require switches SW2 and SW3 to be altered. The purpose of these switches is as follows :

SW2 3.5"/5.25" Select Switch For Second Drive
Position A = 5.25" Second Drive
Position B = 3.5" Second Drive
SW3 Second Drive Present
Position A = Second Drive Present
