FTe DDS Drive Installation

Problems may be experienced when backing up to DDS tape drives installed into FTe servers. The problem is caused by signal and frame grounding issues with the DDS drive. This may result in a variety of symptoms, but the most common will be system hanging during back-ups, or back-ups taking much longer than would normally be expected.

The solution is to isolate the DDS drive from the drive chassis using an insulation sheet and nylon screws. Installation kits are available from Apricot Technical Support.

Note: This modification only applies to FTe systems units fitted with DDS 1.3GB Tape
Drives. FTe systems units shipped after 1st July 1992 will have this
modification applied.
