Keyboard Fuse Protection

See also IPB 4117

All Apricot products manufactured since the introduction of Panther-based systems contain fuse protection for the keyboard and mouse port. There is a possibility that this fuse may rupture, leaving the ports inoperable if the keyboard or mouse is plugged in with the system unit powered on.

The fuse is located by the keyboard and mouse ports and is identified by the lettering "FS1". As this device is an in-line fuse it is not easily changed in the field, therefore the I/O or motherboard should be returned for repair. In order to avoid damaging this fuse, always ensure the system unit is switched off before connecting the keyboard or mouse.

It is a preferred practice that keyboards should only be connected to any computer when the system unit is powered off. Apricot systems that are fitted with keyboard fuse protection are as follows:-

Qi 486
Prefix Code QP Qi 486SX / 486 (Panther/D)
QF Qi 486SX / 486 (Panther/F)
FTe
