Panther 2 Cache Enabling

We are receiving a number of calls from end users reporting the fact that when cache is enabled a blank screen follows.

To enable cache the following steps must be observed :

  1. SIMMs are correctly installed.
  2. GAL (Part Number 12256831) is correctly marked as 12256831 3D64 and is located as PAL 2 (2nd PAL down from top near to SIMM sockets).
  3. SW2 - 1 on I/O PCB is set to ON.

If NO Cache SIMMs are fitted, then the GAL (Part Number 12333331) fitted in location PAL2 is marked PENC002D and S/W 2 - 1 is set to ON.

When the Cache is to be fitted steps 1 to 3 MUST be carried out.

If the machine still appears to be faulty then it is advised to check that the cache SIMMs are the correct ones. SIMMs found to be incorrect will be replaced providing they are still in the 90 day DOA period.

The reason why this problem occurs is due to a number of machines were delivered in Q4 of 1994 without the cache SIMMs fitted.
