DDC (Display Data Channel) monitor support under Windows 3.1x

(Windows 95 is not affected.)

Certain limitations have been found with the DDC detection of the Cirrus Logic CL5434-36 ChipSet used in some Apricot products. DIAMOND, JADE & RUBY motherboards are affected. No Apricot monitors are affected at present. Such is the nature of the DDC monitor detection, it will not give you the option to select any other monitor manufacturer. The automatic "VISA DDC Monitor" detection is limited to a 640x480, 60Hz. Resolution. Use CLMODE to set-up the monitor Vertical Refresh Rate.

DO NOT use WINMODE

Procedure for monitor set-up

  1. Boot machine to C:> Prompt

  2. CD C:\WINDOWS

  3. Set MONITOR TYPE to VGA.

  4. CD C:\WINDOWS\VGAUTIL

  5. Run CLMODE.

  6. Set-up CLMODE to:-
    Monitor Brand = Other Brand.
    Monitor Model = Other Model.
Monitors Refresh rate should be set to manufacturers recommendations.

  7. EXIT and SAVE changes.

  8. REBOOT machine.

  9. Load Windows.

  10. Select CL5434 or CL543x Driver and desired Resolution from Windows Set-up.

  11. Lastly Delete any reference to WINMODE i.e. Icons and Files from the HD.

We recommend that you upgrade the Flash BIOS on DIAMOND to Vr5.04 and JADE/RUBY to Vr4.06. Also the CL543x Windows 3.1x drivers to Vr1.23. These files are available from Apricot Insight BBS.
