Western Digital WD8003EB cards and Jumper W1

The WD8003EB Ethernet card (Western Digital AT bus cards with Remote Boot sockets) appears to be shipped from W.D. with a jumper present on jumper block W1. This causes the card to reset its configuration information to factory defaults each time the machine is powered on. As the factory default settings are IO address 240H, no interrupts, and shared RAM of D000H, this will cause a few problems.

The cards should be checked before use, jumper W1 removed, and then the cards configured using the SETUP program on the disks supplied, avoiding an IO address of 240H as it appears that this address also resets the cards.

Note:

This jumper is documented in a file JUMPERS.DOC which is in the \NETWORK directory of the Release 3 Western Digital Drivers Disk.
