3Com 3C595 and 3C590 errors in a Shogun running NetWare

See also IPB 2249.

We have become aware that in some circumstances the 3C595 and 3C590 in Shogun may cause problems with Novell's Operating Systems (ODI, 3.X, 4.X).

The problem could cause data corruption, hanging, ABEND’s or poor network performance. The frequency and type of the problem does vary between different configurations. Furthermore, the problem only occurs with the 3C595 and 3C590 (in 10 and 100 mbps mode), the 3C592 or 3C579 are not affected by this problem.

The problem is only found with the Shogun and no other products are affected.

Currently a Shogun system is with 3COM US, and there is active involvement from Apricot, Intel, Novell and 3COM to resolve this problem.

Until we have further positive information it is suggested that the 3C595 and 3C590 are not used under NetWare operating systems (ODI, 3.X, 4.X)

If you require further information please don’t hesitate to contact Technical Support.
