The TS150/5 Tape Drive for Qi Systems

The TS150/5 tape drive from Apricot is supported by SCO Xenix 386 VR2.3.2 on Apricot's Qi machines.

  1. Installing the Hardware

Install the MCA Tape Controller card and boot the system from the Apricot Reference disk. 'Error 166' will be reported - press 'Enter' to continue and then 'Esc'. Select 'Install' to copy the ADF file from the disk supplied with the tape unit. Now run 'Autoconfigure' - this will ensure the device is 'enabled'.

To prevent interrupt and address clashes, it is necessary to select the 'Change' option. For the tape adapter card, move the I/O address from 300 to 338 and the adapter interrupt number from 3 to 5. Make sure to press 'F10' to save settings.

  2. Installing the Driver

Run the Xenix command - 'mkdev tape' and select the option to install a cartridge tape drive. Choose the following options:-

    Controller Type 4 (type T)
    DMA Channel 1
    Interrupt Vector 5
    Base Address 0338H

Once 'mkdev tape' has completed, the system will have to be rebooted to load the newly configured kernel.

The tape device is - '/dev/rct0'.

  3. General Notes

The TS150/5 Controller card has the same type of connector as the MCA Specialix card - if both cards are installed in your system, be careful not to mismatch the devices and cards.

Refer also to Intermediate Product Bulletin 3010 (28/2/89).
