MPX Installation Issues

  1. When installing SCO MPX 1.1 on a system already running SCO NFS it is necessary to install SCO's Support Level Supplement LNG287, this fix is the one referred to in the flysheet supplied with SCO MPX 1.1.
  2. When SCO MPX 1.1 has been installed on a system it is NOT necessary to re-install SCO's Security and Printer supplement UNX 257.
  3. Dual Processor systems with SCO MPX have shown problems with backups, particularly to the DDS unit. The symptom is that the process (usually cpio) sits in the process table but does not accrue any CPU time and the orange activity light on the DDS unit is off. No other symptoms occur and drive activity is unaffected. The process can be re-started by doing a

    tape amount

on the control device such as /dev/xct0 (the default). This will awaken the DDS unit and processing will continue from where it stopped.

The problem does show on both backups and verifies and is intermittent. The problem is most likely to be generic to tape devices but more prevalent on the DDS given the amount and duration of the backups it makes. The problem does not affect the stability of machines in any way.
