Specialix in FT//ex & EPx

See also IPB 3195.

A configuration problem has come to light when installing Specialix SI-2 or SI-XIO cards in FT//ex or EPx EISA machines. The Specialix cards are ISA/AT bus but the Specialix supplied utilities disk does include an EISA .CFG file to enable the cards to be seen by the EISA configuration utility.

Please do NOT install these .CFG files on your machine as this operation has on several sites caused corruption of the system CMOS which cannot be drained. The problem is still being investigated but we strongly recommend that .CFG files for any AT/ISA card are not installed (they are not necessary and add little functionality) until the exact cause of the problem has been identified.

The only configuration required when installing a Specialix SI-2 or SI-XIO is therefore to avoid a clash with the on-board SCSI and to disable the appropriate Shadow Ram as described in IPB 3162.
