Wangtek (TS150/5) Tape Usage

Investigations of the cause of problems with this unit suggest a software driver update is required to fix the "reset" problem with the drive. We understand it is the behaviour of the software driver which has caused the problem in the first place, and therefore please follow the procedure below until a satisfactory fix has been supplied.

If the drive access light remains on at boot up or the kernel does not identify the tape unit, reboot the machine before going multi-user. Repeat the procedure of powering on the drive and then the machine until the tape access light is correctly switched off.

If the unit keeps the light on under normal operation then the unit can be reset without resorting to the rebooting of the machine. To do this simply use the command:

tape reset

Apart from the above details, other issues relating to the Wangtek tape unit are covered in Intermediate Product Bulletins 3068, 3067, 3035 and 3010.
