Wangtek TS150 Tape Controller and Apricot Security

See Also: IPB 4014 - IPB 4018 - IPB 4031

The Wangtek MCA 150MB tape controller card has been found to have a compatibility issue with any IBM MCA machine. When reading the POS (programmable option select) information, i.e. the automatic configuration information used when installing the card, the card shuts down.

Apricot Security (as on the Qi and FT Server machines) uses the POS information every time the machine boots. If you have security installed on a machine containing the TS150 controller card, you will not be able to access the tape drive.

Wangtek have produced a rework for the card, we currently have one prototype Revision C controller which is being tested at the time of writing.

The above problem only affects the integration of the Wangtek tape drive and Qi Security. For customers requiring this combination, you will be notified of the upgrade procedure.
