With the Microsoft UK launch of MS-DOS 5.0 today, many of you will be
asked about the Apricot position on DOS 5. This document will update you with the current
information, however any dates and proposals given are only preliminary and under no
circumstances are Apricot contractually bound to meet these.
- Microsoft launch MS-DOS 5.0, June 11th 1991
- Apricot MS-DOS 5.0 upgrade to be available from the price list around 3rd
Quarter 1991. Old master DOS disks will have to be returned as proof of purchase
- Apricot to bundle MS-DOS 5.0 with all hard drive systems later in the
year
- Until this time Apricot will continue to ship MS-DOS 4.01 installed on
all hard drive systems, with the combined 3.3/4.01 DOS Pack included in the box.
- VX-Net will not be supported on any MS-DOS version later than 4.01
Using Microsoft's MS-DOS 5.0 on an Apricot
- Microsoft's version will not support booting from drive B:
- Apricot have an A20 handler for Qi 386-25 systems when loading HIMEM.SYS
and DOS=HIGH. This driver, APRA20.SYS, is available via Technical Support for all sites
requiring this configuration
