A new feature has been introduced into the Apricot Security Pack called ONE TIME PASSWORD. This feature will only be seen where both the following hardware and software criteria are satisfied.

Security Software revision: 9.3 or greater

ROM BIOS date:

LS 386SX-16/20 (LANstation) 20/10/92 or later
All MCA Systems 20/10/92 or later
AdLOC Cards 22/10/92 or later
LS Pro / XEN-LS II 22/12/92 or later

One time Password provides an enhancement to security access control, ensuring that password integrity is not jeopardised, by forcing all users to enter a new password the first time they log on.

When the master programs any new user (this includes the initial master user and all subsequent user classifications), then after they enter the password and it appears as asterisks in the password field, a window will display the following message:

New password accepted. This password will only be valid for one logon at which time it must be preceded by a '+' key. The user will then have to supply a new password for future use.

Security may then be configured as normal.

The first time any user who has access to the system attempts to log on, however, their password must be preceded with a '+' else their logon will be rejected with the message "invalid logon".

When a '+' is entered before the password during the first logon, the security system will prompt the user to enter a new password; this new password may then be used for all subsequent logons without a preceding '+' sign.

This feature ensures that even in cases where users to not program their own access control, once they have logged on successfully, their password is known only to themselves, and not even to the master user who programmed their security.
